The Tristaina Lakes are a stunning trio of alpine lakes located in the parish of Ordino, in northwestern Andorra, within the scenic Ordino Valley. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,300 meters (7,546 feet), the three lakes are named Estany Primer (First Lake), Estany del Mig (Middle Lake), and Estany de Més Amunt (Upper Lake). Surrounded by rugged peaks and dramatic mountain scenery, the lakes are famous for their striking turquoise waters, which contrast beautifully with the grey rock and green alpine meadows, making them one of the most photographed natural landmarks in the country.

The most popular way to experience the lakes is via the Circular de les Tres Estanyes (Three Lakes Circuit), a well-marked 4.4-kilometer (2.7-mile) loop trail that typically takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete. The route is considered moderate, with a total elevation gain of around 250 meters, and it offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the Coma Pedrosa mountain. Access to the trailhead is easy during summer via the Ordino-Arcalís ski resort, where a chairlift operates from late June to mid-September, reducing the initial climb and making the hike accessible to families and casual walkers.

While summer hiking is the prime activity, the Tristaina Lakes area offers year-round appeal. In early summer, the lakes may still be partially frozen, creating a magical landscape, and the surrounding meadows burst with wildflowers. Winter transforms the area into part of the Ordino-Arcalís ski and snowshoeing domain, allowing visitors to approach the frozen lakes on foot with proper equipment. A key tip for visitors is to arrive early in the morning during peak summer season (July and August), as the chairlift and parking can become very crowded, and the afternoon weather in the Pyrenees often brings clouds and wind to the high-altitude lakes.
