The Jammu and Kashmir government is stepping up efforts to promote Buddhist tourism in Ladakh, with plans to restore monasteries, set up tourist centres and build a road network in the region.

According to State Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a detailed project report of Rs 150 crore has been submitted to the Centre for developing a tourism circuit in the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Out of this fund, Rs 50 crore has been allocated for developing a Buddhist circuit in Ladakh, the minister said.

“The state government is planning to restore existing monasteries, hire landscaping experts, set up tourism centres and provide basic road infrastructure in the region to woo Buddhist pilgrims from around the globe,” Mir said.
