Viking Line celebrated a landmark summer season as the new Viking Glory propelled the company to an all-time passenger record on the Turku–Mariehamn–Stockholm route. Since its launch in March, the vessel has not only revitalized traffic between Finland and Sweden but has also sparked renewed interest in Turku, Åland, and Stockholm as premier travel destinations. This surge in popularity contributed to a massive summer for the fleet, with nearly two million total passengers sailing during the three-month peak period.

The success of the Turku route was particularly striking, with over 740,000 people traveling aboard Viking Glory and Viking Grace between June and August. This performance secured Viking Line an impressive market share of more than 65% on the route. Johanna Boijer-Svahnström, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, noted that over 700,000 travelers have already booked or completed trips on the Glory, signaling a robust recovery and deep customer gratitude following two challenging years of the pandemic.

Viking Glory’s appeal lies in its modern travel concept, which prioritizes passenger wellbeing and personalized experiences. By offering a "climate-smart" way to travel, the vessel has successfully expanded Viking Line’s reach beyond its traditional customer base. A significant shift this summer was the influx of younger adults, many of whom were experiencing a sea cruise for the first time, drawn by the ship's focus on customizable, high-end leisure.

According to Marketing Director Ninna Suominen, this younger demographic is specifically attracted to the ship’s lifestyle amenities, such as the expansive outdoor decks and world-class dining. The onboard spa and massage treatments proved to be a major highlight, with services frequently reaching full capacity. This shift suggests that the cruise experience is being redefined as a luxury wellness retreat rather than just a means of transportation.

The positive momentum extended across the entire fleet, with destination cruises to Visby, Bornholm, Ystad, and the High Coast seeing several sold-out departures. Additionally, the vital link between the capitals of Helsinki and Stockholm has shown a strong post-pandemic recovery. As travelers return to the Baltic Sea, Viking Line’s combination of innovative vessels and diverse destinations has set a new standard for Nordic maritime travel.
