The capital of the Maldives, now features on Lufthansa schedules twice a week during the winter timetable, annually from December to April. The island state in the Indian Ocean is rightly famous as one of the world’s most beautiful destinations. Holidaymakers can relax on gorgeous, palm-fringed sandy beaches, or enjoy one of the many water sports on offer. As well as sailing and surfing, the impressive coral reefs can be explored while diving and snorkeling.

The inaugural Lufthansa direct flight from Frankfurt to Male landed at 9.30 a.m. local time today (December 10th). The Lufthansa Flight was welcomed with a spectacular water salute along with the Maldivian traditional “Boduberu” dance. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Honorary Chief Guest, Minister for Tourism Mr. Moosa Zameer, Maldives Airports Company Ltd’s Managing Director Mr. Adil Moosa and Mr. Wolfgang Will, Director, South Asia, Lufthansa Passenger Airlines. At the inaugural function a ceremonial cake was cut to welcome Lufthansa’s operation and gift exchange took place between Lufthansa and Maldives Airports Company Ltd.



The new route to Male is served from Frankfurt nonstop by an Airbus A340-300 equipped with a total of 298 seats, 18 in Business, 19 in Premium Economy and 261 in Economy Class. Flights from Frankfurt to Malé are scheduled to take off every Wednesday and Saturday at 7.25 p.m. and will be arriving at 9.05 a.m. the next day. Additionally, flights from Malé to Frankfurt are scheduled to take off on the following days (Thursday and Sunday) at 10.40 a.m. and will be arriving at Frankfurt at 5.20 p.m. the subsequent day.

On board passengers can expect the outstanding Lufthansa comfort with the latest Business Class and Premium Economy Class cabin design, as well as all the amenities of Economy Class. In addition, they will be able to experience the comprehensive Inflight-Entertainment® and for an extra charge have access to the FlyNet wireless broadband internet service.
