After the massive earthquake in Nepal that generated fear in India as well, many people seeking to perform pilgrimage are questioning the safety in Uttarakhand. To which, Dinesh Dhanai, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister declared the state absolutely safe for tourists and pilgrims.

The state government is continuously receiving calls from worried individuals seeking the information about the safety in Uttarakhand. There have also been reports of tourists cancelling their booking for several destinations in the state. Uttarakhand Tourism Minister, reassured tourists that state government is ‘fully prepared’ to handle if any natural calamity including earthquake hits the state.

Dhanai further declared that the State Disaster Response Force and disaster mitigation and management machinery is at disposal. All arrangements have been made concrete on the Char Dham Yatra route for the convenience of pilgrims. State government has also initiated chopper service in ten places, including Fata and Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district.

It is also to be noted that the pilgrimage for Sikh shrine, Hemkunt Sahib will also start on June 1. The state government is likely to finish the snow clearance and other maintenance work between Govindghat and Gurudwara by May 17 or 18. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat will flag off the first batch of pilgrims to Hemkunt Sahib on May 31 told Dhanai.
