Visitors to New York can enjoy cut-price meals from Monday at many of the best eating places during “Restaurant Week”.

Three-course prix-fixe meals, at $25 (£16.50) for lunch or $38 (£25) for dinner, excluding drinks, tips and taxes, are being offered at almost 300 restaurants.

Among them are establishments run by Daniel Boulud, Gordon Ramsay, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and David Burke, as well as the Lamb’s Club and the 21 Club, both highly rated by Douglas Rogers, author of the Telegraph Travel guide to New York.

“Week” rather under-sells the promotion, which will last from July 22 until August 16. (It began in 1992 and now happens twice a year, in winter as well as in mid-summer.)

All participating restaurants offer the special rates from Monday to Friday inclusive and some of them on Sundays.
