The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) director-India, Romit Theophilus confirmed the three-city roadshow in India that will take place during the first week of September to commemorate the growing number of Indian travellers to Germany.

The move has been welcomed to celebrate the growth spurt in Indian overnight visitors. Reports state a whopping 12.6 pc growth during January-February 2017. Germany has been a favoured destination for Indians, which is reflected in the consistent growth of Indian overnight visitors ranging from 4-7 pc. In 2016, the tourist destination showcased a growth 0f 8.1 pc with 750,000 overnights by Indian visitors. While delivering his speech at Germany Travel Mart 2017 in Nuremberg, Romit Theophilus, director-India, GNTO commented, “This year, we are forecasting the growth figure to reach between 7 pc and 9 pc as Germany is among the top 10 European destinations for Indian visitors. During January and February, 2017, GNTO has seen a 12.6 pc growth in Indian overnights compared to the corresponding months last year. We will be organising a three-city roadshow in India during the first week of September in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad to create awareness and educate the agents about the country and its offerings.”

GNTO also plans to launch an online training programme for the Indian travel trade by the latter half of August in the running year. Speaking on the need of training programmes to uplift the Indian travel market, Romit Theophilus stated, “The training programme will be live on a separate website dedicated for the Indian market. The registration for agents will be free of cost for, and they will be approved by the GNTO to participate in the programme. In the first phase, there will be one module, and by year end the programme will have three modules. On successful completion of the programme, agents will be certified as Germany Specialists, and we will assist them in various endeavours to promote Germany as a preferred destination among India visitors.”

GNTO has been engaged in destination promotions in the Indian subcontinent through theme based marketing to attract outbound tourists. Petra Hedorfer, CEO, German National Tourism Board, said, “A lot has happened all over the world not all of it good. We in Germany stand for openness and tolerance. We welcome people from all nations with great respect from the bottom of our heart.”

GNTO has also taken up initiatives and conducted a web seminar for 400 travel agents in India to encourage the growing trends of Indian outbound tourism to Germany and train regarding German hotels, destinations and available benefits for the travellers.
