Meru cab service has launched a new ride sharing service, called ‘CarPool’ for its customers across India. The service is integrated with the Meru Cabs mobile app. The new carpool service offers personal car ridesharing option for people traveling in the same direction or area.

According to a recent survey undertaken by Regus, a leading global workplace solutions provider, 26% of commuters in India spend over 90 minutes per day travelling to work and meetings. In addition, about 16% of all commuters drive to work on their own and on average 67% of respondents drive to work using their car, thus indicating the huge potential for carpooling among the commuters.

It will give them an opportunity to meet new people and simplify their commute in safe & secured environment. Meru has also partnered with mobile payment service provider – Paytm to offer its customers cashless travel.

Currently, the service is available for all android phone users across India. The easy-to-navigate interface allows people to share or find a ride by signing in through their Facebook profile and complete the transaction via the Paytm wallet in a very seamless fashion.

The carpool service sector is not new in India. There are many independent startups providing the same service. GoTogether, BlaBlaCar and Tripda are known names which work in this sector. With Meru cab service provider also now stepping into the field with its new service, it can be assumed that this space holds immense potential. Where earlier these tech led cab providers were competing for customers for cab rental business, now ride sharing is also emerging as a green pasture.
