We got up fairly early today, as we had to check out and get our flight to Hawaii that evening! Jonny and I played scrabble and generally lounged around on the beach until the boat picked us up. When we got to Lyn and Holly's stop on the ferry we realised that they had once again followed us as they came back on the Yasawa flyer, hehe! It was nice to see them again before we left and as they were heading off to their next destination.

Jonny and I plodded on with the 4 and a half hour journey. They played Iron Man 2 twice and I went to sleep. As soon as we got there we got a taxi to the manky hostel we stayed at to pick up our bag. Luckily, it was still there so we went to the airport. Jonny and I were both excited about the flight. We managed to check our emails at the airport and contacted some people after being out of touch for so long. We got on the plane and it was cool, we only had an hour flight to Samoa and then we had to change. The food on the flight was a bit mediocre with a weird corned beef like salad! Once we stopped in Samoa we took some photos, it was so humid there after being in a relatively dry Fiji. Back on the flight we tried to get some sleep but we were a little distracted by the free alcohol so stayed up drinking on the flight, rum and ginger ale is a definite favourite of Jonny's now.

The-long-trip-to-Hawaii

We arrived into Honolulu rather early in the morning and after hearing what American security was like we aimed not to get arrested for something like carrying one too many dangerous tooth brushes. After collecting the bags and heading out through security we went through immigration, I was fine but Jonny was given a talking down to for a few minutes. He was asked whether he was in the army, this being the only obvious reason that this particular dim witted officer could think of for the countries we had recently visited. We then had all our luggage searched and another officer even asked if Jonny knew the value of his camera equipment, Jonny deliberately stayed there for ten minutes naming and giving precise amounts for each item. Its understandable that America has issues with border security but allowing staff to be rude and aggressive and arming them with less knowledge that the average homeless man doesn't help their problems.

We are finally we are in Hawaii and it's great. We go to pick up the car expecting a tiny economy car and get a very spacious Nissan Versa. We however, forgot that Americans drive on the other side of the road so Jonny has a bit of a challenge!

Annoyingly, we have quite a lot to do today and we are both very tired from the overnight flight. Our first stop if the department of recreation and parks as we need to get a camping permit. The roads are ok and the maximum speed limit over the whole island is about 45 miles an hour! Honolulu is very nice and green and the place is well looked after. We drove past that Palace thing and various other places and galleries. Eventually we get where we want to be and realise we don't have any dollars! Jonny goes to change some and we park up. When we get to the office for camping they tell us that there are no camping permits left! Nightmare! Then she realised she had one left so we will camp there for three nights and then go into a hotel the last night. We were hoping to get some around the island but it doesn't matter, at least we got something.

So next we had to go to a shop to get food and some other bits for camping. We went to Walmart, which is like Asda and got a blow up bed to make us more comfy, some gas cylinders and other stuff. Weirdly, we were expecting this supermarket to have food but it only had packaged stuff. This meant we had to go somewhere else, nightmare! So after leaving Walmart we try and find a food place and the nearest one to go to was in a shopping centre. We are finding the Americans slightly weird already. What is the need to buy in bulk! At the food place you can even get mash with gravy over the counter. The food is really expensive in Hawaii costing about $70 for not even three days food.

We are feeling quite stressed out by this point as we just want to get somewhere to relax, it's a pain in the bum having to organise all this when we feel tired. So we are finally finished with our boring bits and we head to Bellows Beach Park where we are camping for a couple of days.

The place is really nice, Jonny is worried as usual because he always panics when we are camping. I think it is fine and eventually Jonny relaxes. I think he panic's because of me, as he always stays alert in case something happens to us and is always my protector. We where warned that some of the areas weren't suitable for camping but we didn't intend to stay in those areas and the locals all seem very friendly. The beach is absolutely amazing and the scenery on the way to the place was fabulous with massive craggy mountains, cliffs on the sea and stunning beaches. Hawaii is a gorgeous place and it's all about the sun and surf. Jonny and I went for a swim in the sea and then relaxed after that. The sea wasn't anywhere near as warm as we where used to from Fiji, we hope its going to be warmer in other areas. After a period of relaxation we cooked dinner of pasta and other gub-bings, not the most appetising but still easy and quick on our little stove.
