The Tourism Council of Bhutan has announced an increase in visitor numbers to the country between January and September 2014, which compared to the same period last year.

Visitor numbers rose to 88,138 from 75,771 people, becoming one of the most successful tourism years for the.

With Bhutan on track to having a record breaking year, the country is also looking forward to 2015, when it will celebrate His  Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the fourth king’s 60th birthday.

The king introduced tourism to Bhutan during his coronation in 1974.

Since then, Bhutan’s tourism industry has continued to grow and develop, whilst always maintaining its principles of sustainability.

Bhutan has declared the 2015 ‘Visit Bhutan Year’, with various events, activities and holiday deals planned to take place in celebration of the  royal birthday.
