Two tour buses have collided near the popular tourist destination of Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, leaving 33 people dead and 41 injured.

Ukrainian, Saudi and Yemeni citizens are said to be among the injured.

Some of those injured are in a critical condition, with the death toll expected to rise further.

One of the vehicles overturned in the crash which happened early in the morning about 31 miles from the popular holiday destination.

Egypt’s roads and railways have a notoriously poor safety record.

The incident is the latest blow to the bedraggled Egyptian tourism industry, which has been ravaged by three years of political upheaval in the country.
